OLD IS GOLD
OUR CULTURAL AND NATURAL HERITAGE IS BOTH IRREPLACEABLE SOURCE OF LIFE AND INSPIRATION. THEY ARE OUR TOUCHSTONES, OUR POINTS OF REFERENCE, OUR IDENTITY”.
Dear Students,
World Heritage Day is observed on April 18 every year. The aim of celebrating this day is to make people aware of their heritage and the responsibility for the conservation, safeguarding and also to attract them by giving information about such sites located in different countries of the world. The purpose of celebrating this day is that all the history, culture, and nature-related sites related to human history should be protected, and awareness among the general public be created.
Today I am going to tell you something interesting about a very marvellous, beautiful and heritage building of our city, AMI SHISHU MANDIR- A HERITAGE IN THE HEART OF the CITY.
Our school was established around 175 years ago approximately in 1846-1850 by His Highness Maharaja Jayajirao Scindia Ji. In the 1940s the building was used as the official building of the Vijaya Ladies Club. After the Second World War, the heads of royal family, His Highness Maharaja Sir Jiwaji Rao Scindia & Maharani Vijaya Raje felt the pain and sorrow of the widows of the soldiers of the II World War and used the club as a training centre where women gained knowledge of cooking, stitching, knitting, embroidery, and carpet making. They believed in women empowerment & women development and tried to provide the women a respectful life.
Their efforts did not stop there. Independence struggle and the aftermath brought home the realization that the noble work of education and giving educational opportunities to girls and boys from all sections of the society was the only way to build the resource of Gwalior, the youth. From 1945 till now, our school has been playing a remarkable role in the field of education.
Our School is not only a key stone in the field of education but it is also the greatest example of heritage architecture. The ariel view has a peacock sitting with its wings spread out and its feathers spread right across the Italian garden. It is an example of the magnificence of construction!
The patterns and framework used in the construction of the famous Gol Kamara, given that name because of it’s shape, reflects the impressive Italian, Ottoman and British architecture. The pond in the middle of the school with its balcony is also a unique example of designing. Local gossip adds mystery to the campus, saying that there is a secret pathway to the main palace…, but we are yet to discover it !!!
At last, ‘OLD IS GOLD’ and yes we are proud to be a part of it!!!!!!

WORLD HERITAGE DAY
“The heritage talks about the roots of the nation.”
India boasts of diversity in itself and it isprominently visible in its people, culture and climate.
It is a land of historical, religious, natural, culturalartifacts, memoriesandheritage sites. These heritage sites have always been the centre of attraction for the people all over the world.
From the eternal snow of the Himalayas to the cultivated peninsula of far South, from the deserts of the West to the humid deltas of the East, from the dry heat and cold of the Central Plateau to the cool forest foothills, Indian lifestyle clearly glorifies its geography. That is precisely why our land has been blessed with sites and spectacles so distinguished in their nature, that they had to be lauded. Some heritage sites of India included in UNESCO's World Heritage Sites that mustbe visited areSanchiMadhya Pradesh, Hampi,Humayun'sTomb,Delhi,Bodh Gaya, Bihar andKaziranga National Park, Assam. There are many more others to be visited.
We surely have to preserve this rich heritage. We can do this in different ways by promotingawareness campaign to educate community, adopting monuments, following strict government action & plan to save monuments, setting up of archaeological departments,Collecting andgeneration of funds & donation for their renovation.
So we all should not only try to increase awareness about India’s rich heritage and culture but also try to conserve and protect it for our upcoming generation.
